On the morning of February 19, 1968, more than 27,000 teachers and administrators across Florida mailed in signed letters of resignation, effectively creating the nation’s first statewide teacher strike.
Often overshadowed by the tumultuous year of 1968, the statewide Florida teacher strike nonetheless proved a foundational moment in Florida and America’s history. Risking their careers, teachers throughout the state fought ardently to improve education and the teaching profession.
Presenter Jody Baxter Nolls marks the 50th anniversary of the strike and its legacy.
