Let’s combine history with patriotism and fun! This 3-part course starts with the five flags that flew over Florida. Can you name them? How about semaphore flags – we will have a hands-on lesson with naval flag communication and semaphore flags at the Victory Ship Museum. Then wrap up the class with the play, The Journey of the Flag and a guided tour of the History Center temporary American Flag exhibit.

Session 1 – May 17 – Location Centro Asturiano (parking provided)

• 10 am: The 5 Flags of Florida (Spanish, French, British, Confederate, 27 Star United States) – Charles Harris, Victory Ship/USF History Dept
• 11 am: Panel discussion of Flags & Patriotic Symbols – Moderated by Jim Weiss

Session 2 – May 24 – Location Victory Ship Museum (parking provided)

• 10am – 12noon: Naval flag communications at the Victory Ship Museum

Session 3 – May 31 – Location Tampa Bay History Center (parking not provided/use area lots)

• 10am: Journey of the Flag by VFW team/Post 5
• 11am: Guided tour of TBHC Flag Exhibit – American flags – The Stars & Stripes in American History and Culture
