OLLI Course: Crossing the Hillsborough River gave rise to South Tampa's early growth

USF Osher Lifelong Learning Institute

June 29, July 6 & 13

WHEN: 10 AM-Noon

Tampa’s early growth occurred on the east side of the Hillsborough River, with only a few settlers venturing across to the other side. That is until Henry Plant built two bridges, one for Port Tampa and one for his luxury hotel and resort. OLLI instructor and South Tampa native Carl L. Zielonka, DDS, shares how visionary developers foreseeing big profits and industrial growth gave rise to many neighborhoods. We’ll learn about New Suburb Beautiful, Bayshore, Beach Park, Sunset Park, Palma Ceia, Dobyville, and many more.

TBHC and Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) offers free in-person and virtual courses to adults from 10 a.m.-noon. Sign up online at www.usf.edu/continuing-education/olli. OLLI membership fees are waived for History Center members.
