The reception will be held from 5:30-6:30 p.m. in the Lykes Atrium on the second floor. The program begins at 6:30 p.m. in TECO Hall. (Doors will open at 5:30 p.m.) \nGET TICKETS \n  \nThis year’s reception is honored to feature distinguished guest speaker Senator Arthenia Joyner\, a trailblazing leader whose contributions have significantly impacted the course of history. Sen. Joyner will share her insights and experiences\, adding a powerful dimension to the evening’s program. \nThe Tampa Housing Authority proudly supports this event as the Black History Month Reception Gold Sponsor\, exemplifying its commitment to fostering a community that values and preserves Black history. \nCivil rights legend Reverend Dr. Bernard LaFayette\, Jr.\, a Tampa native\, will join Sen. Joyner during the program. Rev. LaFayette will present the annual award named in his honor\, recognizing an individual who has played a pivotal role in preserving and promoting Black history throughout the years. Guests will have the unique opportunity to have Rev. LaFayette autograph his book\, “In Peace and Freedom\,” at the reception.

SUMMARY:Tampa’s Riverfront History Tour
DESCRIPTION:Take a deep dive into Tampa’s history along the Hillsborough River with Tampa Bay History Center’s Curator Rodney Kite-Powell. The 1-hour cruise will include narration by Rodney as guests view the sights of Downtown Tampa from the Pirate Water Taxi. The cruise will set sail from stop 7 located at the Tampa Convention Center where guests will cruise north to Armature Works. On the return trip guests will catch a glimpse of the Tampa Bay History Center before returning to Stop 7. \nAbout Rodney: Rodney Kite-Powell is Director of the Touchton Map Library and the Saunders Foundation Curator of History at the Tampa Bay History Center\, where he joined the staff in 1994. He received a Bachelor of Arts in History from the University of Florida and a Master of Arts in History from the University of South Florida.
