The Tampa Bay History Center is seeking a full-time Curator of Public History. This position serves in the lead role over the development of exhibitions and in the creation of textual, photographic, and artifact components for both temporary and permanent exhibitions and to ensure they are consistent with the TBHC Strategic Plan for Programs. The position performs the research and writing of exhibition development and label copy and assists the education department with the creation of programs for in-house and outreach purposes. The position works directly with the Director of the Touchton Map Library and the Museum program staff in developing long-range plans for temporary exhibitions, potential changes and updates to the permanent galleries, and plans for the collection of artifacts, ephemeral materials, documents, and other materials as these directly relate to the mission of the TBHC.
Qualifications and experience
- Master’s degree in history with an emphasis in Florida history; Ph. D. preferred
- Minimum of 5 years experience in the museum or academic field, 3-4 years of which are in the curatorial department or similar administrative experience in academia
Technical or administrative knowledge
- Excellent writing, communication, and presentation skills.
- Good working knowledge of museology terminology and practices.
- Ability to acquire new skills as they may be deemed appropriate.
Special skills and/or abilities
- Excellent professional ethics as stated in museum accreditation guidelines.
- Ability to accomplish goals while working with numerous priorities.
Salary
$85,000 Annually

The Tampa Bay History Center (TBHC) is seeking History Adventure Camp facilitators. The Camp Facilitators will be responsible for the preparation and implementation of 5-day summer camps for elementary school students (age 7-11), including preparation of lessons, games, crafts, and activities that relate to each week’s predetermined theme. Facilitators will lead activities 5 days, Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. – 4 p.m. with a break for lunch. Availability for 2 camps is preferred. Ability to adapt to the changing needs of campers under their supervision. TBHC is planning to host 4 summer camps sessions between June 10 and July 26, 2024.
The position’s skills required include: the ability to manage workload in varying environments, Independent work ethic, ability to work with all ages of campers, teen volunteers, and museum staff, excellent oral and communication skills, knowledge of formal and informal education techniques, interest or knowledge in Florida or Tampa history is a plus and ability to provide fun activities in a safe learning environment of up to 20 campers. The successful candidate will be highly motivated, punctual, dependable, organized, detail oriented with high energy, a positive attitude and able to maintain a safe and clean working environment.

The Tampa Bay History Center is seeking a part-time facility technician, which can potentially lead to a full-time position. Familiarity with hand tools, painting techniques, basic computer and office equipment is required. Cultural facility, hotel, or general property maintenance experience preferred. Although mainly a day-time position, applicants must have flexibility to work evenings and weekends. The preferred candidate should be a self-starter, energetic, and detailed oriented. A minimum of two years of relevant work experience with excellent interpersonal and communication skills is preferred. Benefits are available for full-time employment only.

The Tampa Bay History Center is seeking a Part-time Visitor Services/Retail Associate to be focused on admission and membership sales, as well as ensuring that all visitors have a successful museum experience. A minimum of two years of customer service, retail or hospitality service, excellent interpersonal and communications skills, creative and flexible problem solving skills. The candidate must have the ability to work morning, evening, and weekend hours.
Starting pay is $15.00 per hour.
