C.J. Roberts has served as the President and CEO of the Tampa Bay History Center since September 2005. He led all facets of the museum’s planning, construction, and opening, which welcomed its first visitors in January 2009.
Before assuming his role with the Tampa Bay History Center, he was the President and CEO of the National Museum of The Mighty Eighth Air Force in Savannah, Georgia; led the team that built and opened the National World War II Museum in New Orleans; and served as Director of the George C. Marshall Museum at the Virginia Military Institute.
Roberts recently completed a six-year term as an American Alliance of Museums Accreditation Commissioner and has actively served as a peer and grant reviewer for the AAM, IMLS, and the State of Florida. He has served on the Greater Tampa Chamber of Commerce board, the Arts Council of Hillsborough County, the University of South Florida’s Florida Studies Center Advisory Council, the University of South Florida Library Dean’s Advisory Committee, the Florida Association of Museums board, and the CEO Council of Tampa Bay.
He received his BA in History and Folklore, and an MLS from Indiana University, and he is a graduate of the Getty Museum Management Institute, the Seminar for Historical Administration and Leadership Tampa.
