OLLI-USF: The History of Hillsborough County’s Communities

The distinct histories of Hillsborough County’s cities, towns and rural communities have contributed to the development of the region.
This three-part course explores communities throughout Hillsborough County, including Tampa, Plant City, Temple Terrace and areas across East, Northwest and South Hillsborough County. Participants will explore the people, places, events and experiences that have shaped the county and continue to define its communities today.
The course meets Wednesdays, Dec. 2, 9 and 16, 2026, from 10 a.m. to noon at Tampa’s Black History Museum, 1213 N. Central Ave., Tampa, FL 33602.
The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at the University of South Florida is part of USF’s Office of University Strategic Partnerships and is powered by a dedicated team of USF employees in partnership with a passionate community of volunteers. OLLI-USF offers engaging, no-pressure learning experiences for adults age 50 and older, creating opportunities to explore new ideas, connect with peers and stay intellectually active.
Registration opens Aug. 31 and will be available through OLLI-USF.

Museum hours
The history center is open daily from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
**Galleries are closed on Thanksgiving and Christmas and open until 3 p.m. on Christmas and New Year’s Eve.
