HarpSound Live presents Harmony Winds: Legacy, which examines five generations of gospel music through the history and performances of a Tampa family whose musical tradition has continued across decades.

The program traces the family’s development from the Singing Sisters, an early a cappella group founded by Ethel Pittman with her sister Bertha and friend Annie Lou, through church choirs and the Maranatha Singers, established as a performing group by 1979. Later generations expanded the family’s musical practice beyond vocal performance, cultivating instrumentalists and developing new ensembles. Today, younger members continue that work through groups including the Tampa Boyz, Simply Redeemed and Voices of Harmony.

Through live music and family history, the concert considers how gospel traditions are taught, adapted and sustained across generations. Its focus on the relationships among family, faith and performance also offers a perspective on the role of gospel music in Tampa’s cultural history.

Presented by Unlimited Gospel Expressions, the event brings performers from different generations together at Tampa’s Black History Museum on Thursday, Nov. 19, 2026. Audiences will hear musical styles associated with successive periods of the family’s history and consider how performance can preserve personal memories, document community experience and transmit cultural knowledge to younger musicians.
