Learn how to donate appreciated stock
Your generosity has made an extraordinary year possible at the Tampa Bay History Center. One remarkable highlight is the acquisition of the Hernán Cortés map, a treasure that enriches our understanding of Florida’s history.
Why the Hernán Cortés map matters
The Hernan Cortés map of the Gulf of Mexico and Tenochtitlan is one of the most significant acquisitions ever for the Touchton Map Library. For most of the world, the map’s significance is centered on the map/view of the Aztec capital of Tenochtitlan. It is the first depiction of a city in the Americas to appear on a printed map. For us, though, the map of the Gulf of Mexico is far more important as it includes the Florida peninsula and, more significantly, the words “La Florida” – the first time the name appears on a printed map.
The map is also one of the earliest and the most accurate to date of the Gulf of Mexico, which puts the Tampa Bay History Center’s map collection in a class of its own thanks to the extraordinary support of donors like Tom Touchton, Nancy and Bob Bolt, and Nell Ward.
An impactful way to give: Donate appreciated stock
Donors like you make acquisitions like this possible. As we reflect on this year, we invite you to consider another impactful way to give: donating appreciated stock. This type of gift offers unique benefits for you while advancing our mission. By donating appreciated assets that you’ve held for more than a year, it is possible to save on capital gains taxes as well as deduct the full market value of your gift.*
A simple way to gift shares of stock as a charitable donation to the History Center is to transfer them from your broker to the Center’s account. Contact us at (813) 675-8991 or [email protected] for additional details.
Your generosity helps preserve and share the stories that define our community. Thank you for your continued support of the Tampa Bay History Center. We look forward to seeing you in the galleries soon!
