Days and Times:

Field trips are offered Tuesdays and Thursdays, beginning at 10 am. Tours will last 100 minutes. Reservations and prepayment are required.

Tour Overview:

Students are guided through the historic plantation house and grounds to explore the significant eras and people that shaped Chinsegut Hill. Primary sources are introduced to make connections to historical events and tie closely to Next Generation Sunshine State Standards. Tours will correspond to Hernando County's social studies curriculum calendar.

Fall 2021

Tours may include map skills, archaeology, Native American tribes, pioneer life, Seminole Wars, statehood, slavery and emancipation, Florida and the Civil War/Reconstruction, Florida weather, and local Hernando County history.

Spring 2022

Tours are under development but are likely to include the Great Depression. Florida Industries, World War I and II, Famous Floridians, and Civil Rights.

Student groups (Min. 10 / Max. 60)

Student - $7

Required Teachers or Chaperones - 1 per 10 students – Free

Additional adults - $10

Parking & Picnic Options

Buses and personal vehicles may park in the lot adjacent to the historic house.

Students may bring a picnic lunch, or for catered lunch options, please contact Mid Florida Community Services at 352.277.1227.
