History in 60: Robert Mugge
November 2 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm
FreeTampa’s Forgotten Saloon Magnate and City Builder
Join us on Nov. 2 at noon for an engaging talk by Robert Mugge on his great-grandfather, the first Robert Mugge and the “saloon magnate of Tampa.” Based on Mugge’s second book, “Saloon Man: A German Immigrant Battles the Limits of Liberty, 1870 to 1915,” this program covers the life of the original Robert Mugge, who immigrated to America at 17. Discover how he built a successful alcohol-related business in Tampa, navigated the challenges of the temperance movement, and supported African Americans during Jim Crow segregation, making him a controversial yet pivotal figure in Tampa’s history.
This free presentation will be held at the TECO Learning Center. Reservations are recommended.
