Living History Saturday: Reading in Cigar City

$16.95Cervantes, Shakespeare, and Emerson–could these authors have a connection to early Tampa history? Yes! Cameron McNabb, Ph.D., a visiting assistant professor of literature at Eckerd College, will share the various ways literature permeated the cigar culture of Ybor City. Discover how lectores read aloud in cigar factories and became influential in the revolutionary speeches of José Martí–and even inspired the names of cigar labels. Join Living History Saturday, included with museum admission, from noon–3 p.m. on Aug. 26. Three 30-minute presentations will happen throughout the afternoon.

The history center is open daily from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
**Galleries are closed on Thanksgiving and Christmas and open until 3 p.m. on Christmas and New Year’s Eve.
