Walking Tour: Central Avenue

The Tampa Bay History Center is proud to offer walking tours that highlight the powerful stories of Tampa’s Black community. A fan favorite, the Encore Tampa tour takes you into the city’s Tempo District, once the heart of Central Avenue and a thriving hub of business, entertainment, and culture.
On this guided walk, you will explore the Encore neighborhood, once known as “the scrub,” and uncover the music, culture, and daily life that shaped the community from the 1890s through the 1960s. Stops include Perry Harvey Sr. Park and surrounding landmarks that keep this vibrant history alive.
Each tour lasts 90 minutes, begins at 10 a.m., and covers less than a mile along sidewalks and brick streets. Comfortable shoes and outdoor attire are recommended.
