Historic Wimauma Memorial Cemetery Marker Dedication

The Hillsborough County Historical Advisory Council will dedicate a new marker at the Historic Wimauma Memorial Cemetery at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 21, at 6014 Edina St., Wimauma. The public is invited to attend; no reservation is required.
Founded in the late 1800s, the cemetery was originally established as the burial ground for the formerly enslaved and early African American residents of southern Hillsborough County. Many of those laid to rest there were field and railroad workers, church members, and U.S. military veterans.
The Historical Advisory Council oversees Hillsborough County’s historical marker program and supports efforts to preserve and recognize the region’s significant historic sites.
