Ybor 140: A community celebration of 140 years of Ybor’s first cigar

April 13 @ 12:00 pm - 2:30 pm
Free

On April 13, 1886, the first cigar was rolled in Ybor City. A moment that shaped a neighborhood, a culture, and a legacy. Join us on 7th Avenue in front of Hotel Haya as we come together as a community to honor Ybor’s past and participate in its living history. In a symbolic tribute, 140 hands will come together to roll a single cigar, guided by professional cigar rollers, representing the generations of craftsmanship that built this city.

Guests are invited to sign up for this once-in-a-lifetime experience.

SIGN-UP

Throughout the afternoon, enjoy:

  • Cuban sandwich bites and paella from Hotel Haya
  • Pop-up mobile museums from the Ybor City Museum Society and Tampa Bay History Center
  • Stories and surprise guests sharing the rich history and evolution of Ybor City
  • A community-driven, come-and-go atmosphere on historic 7th Avenue

At 2:15 PM, we’ll gather for the final roll a celebratory moment marking the completion of the cigar and honoring 140 years of heritage, resilience, and community.

We invite locals, businesses, and visitors alike to stop by, take part, and be part of Ybor history.

Valet parking will be available at Hotel Haya for $10, with additional city parking located throughout Ybor City. This event is open to the community and free to attend—guests are welcome to come and go throughout the afternoon.
