$25

Don’t miss this must-see walking tour in November, a part of the Tampa Bay History Center’s series of walking tours. The Tampa Bay History Center invites you to step into the stories of West Tampa’s Black community with this powerful 90-minute walking tour. As part of our walking tour series, this experience uncovers the places and people who shaped Tampa’s history and left an enduring impact on the city.

Along the way, you will visit the former sites of J. W. Roberts City, West Tampa’s first brick cigar factory, and I. W. Phillips Field, the University of Tampa’s early football stadium. You will also stop at Clara Frye Memorial Hospital for Negro patients, Tampa’s first public housing development, and the childhood homes of notable figures in Hillsborough County’s Black community.

Tours are limited to 25 participants and cover approximately half to one mile along public sidewalks. Please wear comfortable shoes and attire for walking outdoors.

The tour lasts 90 minutes and begins at 10 a.m. Participants will meet inside Julian B. Lane Riverfront Park at the flag pole near the Bob Buckhorn River Center, located at 402 Laurel St. in Tampa. Parking is available within the park and in surrounding areas. Advance tickets are required, and private tours can be scheduled by calling (813) 228-0097.

Do not miss this opportunity to explore Tampa through the lens of Black history. Secure your tickets today and walk with us through West Tampa’s legacy.
