City of Tampa’s Archives Awareness Week: July 14-20
Since its establishment in 1987, the City of Tampa Archives and Records Division has been dedicated to chronicling the city’s growth and diverse heritage through historical preservation. The Archives’ role in safeguarding Tampa’s past takes center stage each year during Archives Awareness Week, an initiative launched in 1992 by the City of Tampa Archives Advisory Committee.
This annual event underscores the importance of archives in our community, emphasizing their role in identifying, preserving, and conserving crucial historical records. Throughout the week, local archives open their doors to the public, offering a firsthand look at Tampa’s history through engaging exhibits and educational programs.
This year’s Archives Awareness Week centers on 1924, a period in Tampa’s evolution currently highlighted in its Decade of Change: Florida in the 1920s exhibit.
