Rodney Kite-Powell previews ‘Cinema in the Sunshine State’ on RadioStPete

Historian Rodney Kite-Powell joined RadioStPete’s Nanette Wiser for a wide-ranging conversation about Florida history, public memory and the Tampa Bay History Center’s newest exhibition, “Cinema in the Sunshine State.” Kite-Powell discusses his work as Hillsborough County’s official historian, the role of newspapers and historical markers in preserving local stories, and Florida’s long connection to filmmaking. The conversation also previews the new exhibition, opening Sept. 19 in the Wayne Thomas Gallery on the fourth floor of the History Center, where visitors can explore the state’s place in movie history through posters, film artifacts and stories from more than a century of cinema.
